During the tour, you will have a chance to explore a salt mine that was in constant use from the 1300s to 2007 and, through looking at the artwork etched into the rock, you will get a sense of what it felt like to be a miner hundreds of years ago. Wieliczka Salt Mine is located around 8 miles from the center of Krakow.
How long will the Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour last?
The journey from Krakow to the Salt Mine takes around 30-50 minutes, depending on the traffic. The sightseeing takes between 1,5 h and 2 hours (including some free time after the tour). Before heading back to Krakow again, please keep in mind, that you might queue for up to 15-30 minutes to use the authentic mine lift.
Do I need to pay for the entrance tickets to the Salt Mine?

I'm an elderly person, will I need to walk a lot?
The tour is not recommended for people with walking difficulties as it requires ascending and descending long staircases.
Can we take pictures in the Salt Mine?
To take pictures at the Salt Mine, visitors need to make an additional payment of 10PLN (around 2 GBP).
How long does the salt mine tour from Krakow take?
The tour itself lasted around 2 hours. It might take another 15-30 minutes to make your way up using the lift, depending on the number of visitors.
Will there be a break during the tour?
Yes, the first break is after one (1) hour of sightseeing, during which you can get some snacks or go to the toilet. The other break is after the tour is finished, you have around 10-15 minutes to use the toilet or buy some souvenirs in the mine's gift shop.
Can children visit the Salt Mine?
Yes, children of all ages can visit the Salt Mine. Please note that there are about 700 steps to descend. It is advisable to leave the prams at the luggage room located above ground.
Can we visit the salt mine without guide's assistance?
For your safety and mine security, all visits to the Salt Mine are made only with a guide's assistance.
Is it true that the air in the Wieliczka Salt Mine has healing properties?
Yes. The saline microclimate is free of allergens, bacteria, and fungi. For those interested, you can even spend the night in the wonderful, healthy air in the centuries old mine.
Is there a lift I can use to go down into the mine with instead of stairs?
There is a specific tour catering to the physically impaired and/or handicapped. Just mention it when making your reservation with us! The lift is available ONLY for people who are disabled or have walking difficulties. Otherwise, a surcharge for using the lift applies. The availability of the lift can only be confirmed on the day of the tour and it cannot be booked in advance. The lift will take you to the -1 level, to get to -2 level, you must to take the stairs. Once the tour is finished, all groups go up by a lift located the -2 level.
